Jeff McGee began his academic career at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, earning an Associate’s Degree in 2001 in Computer Animation.  After exploring the job market he decided to continue his studies at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania where he received his BFA, cum laude in metalsmithing in 2006.  McGee’s MFA work took him to Lawrence, Kansas to study at The University of Kansas’ nationally recognized metalsmithing program.  His 2009 honors thesis, Creak: The Last Living Terror Bird amalgamated aspects of collaborative theater, puppetry, kinetic sculpture, and traditional hand-wrought metal work into an interactive experience surrounding an ancient avian character searching for its future.

Prior to joining the San Jacinto South Faculty in Houston, Texas in January 2011, McGee held a teaching appointment at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas while simultaneously working as a bronze casting and fabrication sculptor at Staab Studios in Kearney, Missouri.  His work has been shown nationally, with high regard for its craftsmanship and whimsical approach to traditional mediums and practices.  McGee’s passion for inter-disciplinary dialogue is evident in his teaching methods and creative pursuits which stress contemporary problem solving and critical thinking across diverse vocations.
