Julia Morrison

August 28th, 2011

Many artistic endeavors have come and gone in my life. Here to stay is metalsmithing. I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t interested in creating something. I’ve made telephone wire rings, designed clothing for stuffed bunnies and bears, plastic jewelry, painting, candle making, soap making and belt buckles are but to name a few.

I am for the most part self-taught. I have taken classes and workshops from jewelry artists’ known and unknown. I adore learning new techniques and meeting new people; most especially artists, who never cease to inspire me.       To quantify the influences in my life would be impossible. Most certainly my travels have influenced my jewelry style. From London to Spain, South America to Egypt to Cyprus, Canada to Holland and more… all have influenced how I create and see art.     Every piece of the past has a story not to be ignored. Antiques and everything old  should be cherished. My jewelry is but a story to be made. It has a culture of its own, exaggerated yet natural, showy yet unpretentious. Simply put, to be enjoyed.    I live in north Houston with my husband, 4 children, two cats, a turtle and our dog.
